Fatal Crash: 25-Year-Old From Shirley ID'd As Victim After Vehicle Hits Pole In Yaphank

A 25-year-old has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash on Long Island.

It happened just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 in Yaphank.

The man was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla northbound on Yaphank Avenue when the vehicle veered off the road, struck a curb, and went airborne, hitting a telephone pole, Suffolk County Police said.

Nicholas Demaio, of Shirley, was partially ejected from the vehicle, according to police.

He was pronounced dead on the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
